2005 MJM 34z Downeast

The 2005 MJM 34Z is a 34-foot downeast cruiser built to enduring design principles by Doug Zurn and Bob Johnstone. The fiberglass hull is painted Flag Blue with a cream deck and contrasting tan nonskid. Powered by a single Yanmar 6LY inline six-cylinder diesel engine producing 440 horsepower with 793 hours on the clock, the boat cruises at 25 knots. The bottom received a complete refresh in early 2024—soda blasted to remove accumulated paint buildup, then primed with epoxy barrier coats and finished in black paint.

The pilothouse features opening windows that hinge upward and side curtains that roll up fully, creating genuine open-air capability on fair days while closing off weather when needed. The teak sole runs through both pilothouse and cockpit. An opening transom door provides direct access to the swim platform. Stidd helm seats anchor the station, which includes remote controls for the electric windlass and spotlight. Navigation and engine management are handled by a full suite of Raymarine electronics: a 12-inch Axion Pro chartplotter with hybrid-touch screen, GPS 19x, Quantum 2 radar, I-50 depth display, p70rs autopilot, and a new Ray218 VHF with DSC. Additional systems include a Reverso oil-change pump for engine and transmission, Racor fuel and water filter with pressure gauge, CO2 alarm, and Exalto windshield wipers with fresh-water wash.

The interior features satin-finished cherry cabinetry with high-gloss teak and holly flooring. The saloon seats six around a dining table that drops to form a large berth for two. The enclosed head includes a VacuFlush system. The galley holds substantial refrigeration and a microwave. A weather cover for the pilothouse windshield and blackout inserts for the side curtains complete the outfit.
