This 48-foot steel trawler was custom built over twelve years and launched in 2008. Designed by naval architect Scott Sprague, she combines rugged metal construction with a straightforward, seaworthy design suited for extended ocean passages. The single-engine setup consists of a 175 hp Lugger diesel with dry stack exhaust and keel cooling, paired with a 75 hp Lugger wing engine fitted with a hydraulic pump and get-home motor. A Northern Lights 10kw genset provides electrical power. The boat carries 1400 gallons of diesel fuel with polishing and transfer systems, supports large-capacity service batteries of 1600 amp hours, and features paravane stabilizers for sea state management.
Accommodations and onboard systems reflect preparation for extended voyaging. A Webasto hydronic heating system with 5kw electric backup provides warmth, while MarineAir air conditioning manages cooling. The boat is equipped with an EchoTech watermaker, redundant communications including Starlink, Iridium Go, and an Iridium satellite phone, and carries a Bullfrog tender with a 15hp Tohatsu outboard engine.
In 2024, the boat underwent comprehensive updates and preparation for high-latitude work. These included new stainless steel dry stacks, a new watermaker, fabricated storm shutters for pilothouse windows, a major overhaul of the DC and AC electrical systems, a rebuilt Webasto heater, bottom paint, a new propeller, and a tender cradle. Engine hours were low at the time of update, with the main engine at 1965 hours and the genset at 915 hours.
