The 2006 Out Island 38 Express is a diesel-powered sportfisher built around twin Cummins 480 engines delivering 960 horsepower. The hull combines classic Out Island design—Carolina flare, tumble home, and rounded transom—with a full tuna tower and fiberglass helm pod. A center command station places controls and displays within easy reach, while the cockpit and helm deck are equipped for both cruising and fishing, with a custom four-sided enclosure, rod holders, outriggers, and spreader lights throughout.
Below deck, the cabin includes a V-berth forward, a convertible salon table that serves as an extra bunk, a separate head with shower, galley with two-burner cooktop and refrigerator, and handcrafted cabinetry. Twin Simrad Evo displays (12-inch at the lower helm and 9-inch at the tower) manage navigation and engine data, complemented by Simrad HALO radar, autopilot, VHF, and satellite radio. Additional systems include guest spot lights, underwater LED lighting with color changes, and recessed LED lighting throughout.
The boat has seen substantial engine and systems work: the port engine was rebuilt in 2016, the starboard engine in 2025, and new fuel tanks were installed in 2017. Recent updates include new batteries and A/C unit in 2025, fully serviced mains and generator in October 2025, new radar and transducer in 2025, replaced helm steering pump in 2017, and new generator in 2020. The cockpit features insulated fish boxes with freezer plates, a transom livewell, bait wells, and new nonskid surfaces on all flat areas including the front deck.
