The 2006 X-50 is a fiberglass sailing yacht built to serious offshore standards. Its hull employs sandwich construction with structural foam and bi-directional E-glass positioning, reinforced with solid laminates around the keel, rudder, and through-hull fittings. A hot-galvanized steel frame laminated into the hull absorbs loads from the keel, mast, and rigging. The deck follows the same sandwich method with white sprayed gelcoat finish and nonskid side decks. White hull with navy stripes wrap over the topsides, applied in 2023. A stainless steel bathing ladder and single-point hoist facilitate safe launching.
The three-cabin accommodation includes three heads, with plumbing fed by a stainless steel fresh water tank and two holding tanks. An Isotherm hot water tank draws heat from either the main engine or shore power immersion heater. Three electric refrigerators and three air conditioning units provide climate control. Deck amenities include a 9 mm teak cockpit sole, seats, and bathing platform, plus a teak cockpit table and sprayhood.
Propulsion comes from a Volvo D2 75 hp diesel engine with a three-blade folding propeller and annual maintenance history. A 105-liter auxiliary tank supplements the main fuel capacity.
The sail plan centers on a fractional JOHN MAST three-spreader aluminum design with an in-boom furler, hydraulic vang, and new discontinuous rod rigging throughout. Harken electrical primary winches and mainsheet system, Andersen electrical 52.2 for halyards, and Spinlock jammers handle deck operations. Sails include Doyle mainsail and jib, Shore 136% genoa, Doyle storm staysail, Quantum spinnaker, and asymmetric spinnaker; a furling tweener code sail remains unused. Navigation instruments include Brookes & Gatehouse package with chartplotter and sailing instruments, Raymarine autopilot and VHF. The electrical system features Mastervolt lithium batteries for service, separate AGM for engine start, and a Fisher Panda 5 kVA generator. An eight-person life raft, electric windlass with stainless steel anchor, and 60 feet of chain with 100 feet of rode complete the offshore outfit.
