The Alerion Express 28 is a refined daysailer drawn by Carl Schumacher and inspired by Nathanael Herreshoff's original designs. Built in 2007 by Tillotson Pearson, she combines classical hull form—marked by elegant overhangs and low sheer—with a modern underbody that delivers balanced performance and ease of handling. A shoal-draft keel opens access to shallow-water cruising grounds, while the in-mast furling system and self-tacking Hoyt jib boom make her straightforward for single or double-handed sailing. The cockpit accommodates up to six people comfortably, and the interior features warmly finished varnished teak suitable for weekend overnight stays.
The boat has received substantial recent upgrades. New jib and mainsail were installed in 2024, along with an additional Lewmar winch, Spinlock triple clutch, and Harken deck organizer. An electric head was added in 2024. Fresh varnish and bottom paint were applied in 2025. The interior includes like-new cushions and custom-fit cockpit cushions, while a full winter canvas cover was custom designed for the boat. Additional safety features include custom double lifelines with gates and a reinforced pulpit. A custom rub rail and companionway and hatch screens complete the outfit.
Powered by a 14-horsepower Yammer auxiliary engine, this 28-footer is rigged and ready for cruising. The original mast and boom remain available with the sale.
