The Oyster 56 is a proven ocean cruising yacht, representing one of 75 examples built between 1998 and 2010. This 2007 model measures 57 feet in length with a 16-foot beam and is constructed of composite with single-skin hull reinforced by substantial ribs and stringers. The design, drawn by Rob Humphreys, combines the size and spaciousness needed for fast ocean passages with the handling characteristics suited to couples or small crews. This yacht features a full-length rudder skeg, keel-stepped mast, and an ergonomically designed cockpit developed in partnership with Loughborough University.
The boat carries a cutter rig with a fully battened mainsail for conventional slab reefing, electric furling on the genoa, and manual furling on the staysail—all sails are from 2023. She is fitted with the fifth-generation G5 Oyster Deck Saloon featuring curved saloon windows. Below decks, the alternative B layout provides four cabins sleeping seven, with the forward guest cabins positioned aft of the mast for improved comfort at sea. A dedicated deck-access sail locker forward and forward head and shower support this layout. The interior is finished in hand-worked maple joinery with traditional teak and holly cabin soles.
Recent work includes standing rigging replacement completed in 2020, now covering 36,000 miles. The yacht has new sails from 2023, a new Highfield dinghy with a 20-horsepower Honda outboard, and significant maintenance work carried out in 2022, 2023, and 2024. The boat recently completed the World ARC 2023–2024 circumnavigation.
