This 2008 Custom Carolina 42 Express is a diesel-powered sportfish built on a composite hull. Powered by a single Caterpillar C-12 engine rated at 705 horsepower, the boat cruises at 24 knots while burning 24 gallons per hour and reaches a maximum speed of 30 knots. The engine received a complete frame-out rebuild in April 2024 and has approximately 650 hours of operation since that work, with all service records available.
The flybridge is fully appointed with a center console helm featuring electronic controls and a teak helm pod. Navigation and electronics include Simrad 4-foot open array radar, Simrad multifunction displays, Simrad autopilot, FLIR night vision, and a new Icom VHF radio. A Lite & Horizon three-sided enclosure protects the flying bridge, which also carries a fiberglass hardtop and manual teaser reels. Below, a lower helm station on the forward bulkhead provides secondary control with its own Simrad display, Standard Horizon VHF, and autopilot integration.
The cockpit is rigged for fishing with twin fiberglass fighting chairs, a fiberglass rocket launcher with six rod holders, and ten additional gunwale rod holders. A transom fishbox, port-side bait freezer and livewell, and raw and fresh water washdowns support active fishing. The deck features SeaDeck composite with teak covering boards. Below decks, the galley houses a chest freezer, refrigerator, microwave, and Corian countertops. A forward stateroom with V-berth and teak-and-holly flooring provides sleeping quarters, while a day head with pocket door and ElectroScan waste system serves the interior. Recent updates include a new Webasto air conditioning unit and cooling system installed in 2021, new ZF transmission in 2023, exterior paint, new three-sided enclosure, fresh Simrad electronics in 2025, and FLIR thermal imaging.
