The 2008 Island Packet SP Cruiser is a 41-foot fiberglass motor sailer built for comfortable cruising and extended passages. Powered by a 110 hp Yanmar diesel engine with an 8kW generator, the boat draws just 3'8", allowing access to shallow waters and the Great Loop. The design combines trawler-like livability with straightforward sailing capability through a roller-furling sloop rig with electric winches controlled from the helm — true push-button sailing. An enclosed pilothouse with hinged center windshield panel protects the helm station while maintaining connection to the forward cockpit; dual swivel captain's chairs and a large console provide comfortable control.
Below deck, the layout offers generous accommodation across three cabins. The forward stateroom features a queen berth with recent custom mattress, while two single berths occupy the quarter cabin aft. A full head with separate shower serves the accommodations, and the galley includes island-mounted sink, ample counter space, and storage suited to extended cruising. The main salon has a large L-shaped settee, folding table, and forward seating that opens to natural light through CE Category A oceangoing windows.
Recent upgrades completed through 2025 include new Quantum sails (installed summer 2023, minimal hours), Raymarine electronics suite with multifunction display, chart plotter, radar with Doppler, and day/night camera, plus Sirius XM weather radio and Starlink internet. The electrical system was comprehensively renewed: nine new AGM batteries, two new battery chargers, new Balmar alternator, and fresh bilge pump. New mattresses, marine carpet throughout pilothouse and sleeping areas, and custom Sunbrella cushions enhance comfort. Hull maintenance included bottom paint, boot stripe, and professional compound and wax in fall 2024; monthly bottom cleaning has continued since October 2024. Black water hoses, manual-electric toilet, and 50-foot 50A shore power cable are all new.
Additional equipment includes 45-pound anchor with 250 feet of 3/8-inch chain, electric windlass with bow and helm controls, bow thruster, Edson engine mount, davits with hinged outboard bracket, and an ICOM VHF radio. Climate control is provided by two reverse-cycle air conditioning units (14,000 and 12,000 BTU). All mechanical systems and winterization are professionally maintained.
