2008 Northwest Boats 45

This 2008 Northwest 45 is a pilot house trawler built with substantial construction throughout. A single Cummins 405 horsepower diesel engine powers the boat, supported by a Northern Lights 12 kilowatt generator and Xantrex Freedom 3,000 watt inverter. The trawler cruises at 8 knots and has a maximum speed of 10 knots, with a draft of 4 feet 3 inches that allows passage through shallow waters. The mast can be unbolted and lowered, reducing air draft to 17 feet 6 inches.

The boat features two staterooms and two heads for accommodation. On deck, an American bowthruster and Keypower stabilizer system enhance maneuverability and comfort. An 12-foot AB tender with two davits provides auxiliary transportation. Equipment includes a swim step integral to the hull and scuppers positioned on the aft, starboard side, and foredeck for drainage.

Northwest Boats employed vacuum-infused composite construction for the hull and deck, using vinyl ester resins throughout rather than polyester. This material choice allows for up to 5 percent flex before fracturing, improving durability and reducing stress crack risk. The hull laminate incorporates a Kevlar layer in the forward section below the waterline for added strength. The boat was built using a uni-molding process with only five major molded components, which minimizes secondary bonding points and creates a stronger integrated structure. Watertight bulkheads, composite floors, decks, and major bulkheads laminated to the hull complete the structural system.

The hull is finished in Awlgrip Fighting Lady Yellow with the superstructure in Awlgrip Oyster White.
