This 2009 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DS is a 49-foot cruising sailboat designed for extended offshore and Mediterranean sailing. Built to Philippe Briand and Vittorio Garroni's design, the boat combines the brand's proven hull and deck construction with thoughtful upgrades for autonomous cruising. A 110 hp Yanmar turbo diesel with approximately 1,200–1,400 hours powers the boat, supported by shaft drive with fixed propeller and an integral bow thruster.
The interior accommodates three cabins across a spacious layout: a forward owner's suite with island berth and ensuite, plus two large aft double cabins. The central saloon features a bright, well-ventilated space with lounge seating and convertible table. The galley is fully equipped for extended living aboard, with a four-burner gas cooker, oven, re-gassed fridge and freezer, and an array of electric appliances added in 2024. Two heads with electric Jabsco units and fresh upholstery throughout the saloon and cockpit complete the interior.
Recent major systems work has been extensive. Electrical systems underwent full overhaul in 2024: twin 1,250 W solar panels feed a 600 Ah lithium battery bank managed by Victron controls, enabling off-grid operation of air conditioning, galley equipment, and all electronics via a 3,500 W inverter. The engine received new fuel tank (2022), injector cleaning, compression testing, new cutlass bearing and shaft seals (2024). New mainsail (2023) and 120% furling genoa with UV protection hang from in-mast furling and running rigging replaced in 2022. Navigation systems include Raymarine Axiom 9 plotter, AIS Class B, Quantum Q24D radar, and autopilot. Teak decks were refurbished in 2023 with Semco reseal in 2025; hull received professional polish and new boot stripes (2024). A hydraulic Besenzoni passerelle with remote control was added in 2021.
Deck equipment includes a Lewmar electric windlass (2023), 90 metres of 12mm chain, primary 34 kg Delta anchor plus two spares, and a new Highfield CL290 tender (2023) with new Honda 6hp outboard. A certified eight-person life raft, comprehensive safety gear, and full liveaboard inventory including charts, tools, and spares are aboard. Fresh water capacity is 614 litres; fuel 240 litres.
