The 2009 Shipman 72 is a high-performance carbon composite cruising yacht built for extended offshore sailing and short-handed operation. Her design centers on a hydraulically lifting deep-draft fin keel with twin carbon rudders and a retractable carbon bowsprit, delivering versatile performance across wind strengths and sea conditions. The rig features a Hall Spars carbon mast and boom with EC6 carbon rigging, Harken winches, and a complete suite of Doyle Stratis sails including a new Code Zero furler. Below deck, the open-plan layout offers abundant natural light through large windows, with a full-beam master suite, two convertible guest cabins, and four heads. The galley includes a Force 10 gas oven and burners, dual refrigeration with freezer capacity, and a watermaker producing 150 liters per hour.
Accommodation and systems are extensively equipped for extended cruising. Climate control comprises fan coil units throughout with separate heating and cooling zones, supported by two 50,000 BTU frequency chillers. Navigation relies on a comprehensive B&G electronics suite including dual nine-inch Zeus displays, a twelve-inch multifunction display with Halo 20 radar, and dual VHF with AIS. Power management includes 220V and 12V electrical systems with Mastervolt chargers and a service battery bank. Hydraulic systems power the keel, rudders, bowsprit, windlass, swim platform, and passerelle. The deck features fully laid teak, a large protected cockpit, hydraulic mooring winch, and a tender garage with a Highfield CL290 tender and Honda 15HP outboard.
Significant refit work was completed between 2021 and early 2025. The engine room was rebuilt with new fuel lines, exhaust system, shaft seal, and engine mounts. The heating and air-conditioning system was entirely replaced. Mast and boom rigging underwent visual inspection and service, with new halyards, sheets, and reef lines fitted. Rudders and steering quadrants were removed and serviced. The hydraulic keel was serviced with new sensors installed on all locking pins. Through-hull valves were selectively replaced, fresh water systems updated, and the watermaker pump fitted with inverter capability. Safety equipment includes lifejackets, liferaft, EPIRB, flares, and medical kits. Starlink and a Fusion stereo system were recently added.
