The Southerly 47 is a blue water cruising sailboat designed by Stephen Jones Yacht Design and built by Northshore Shipyard between 2012 and 2014. This 47-foot yacht centres on an electro-hydraulic swing keel, adjustable from 1.2 metres for shallow coastal waters to 3.2 metres for offshore performance. The deck layout features a twin-helm aft cockpit suited to short-handed sailing. The fractional rig carries a self-tacking jib, furling genoa, fully battened mainsail with single-line reefing, and an optional cutter jib with running backstays.
Below, a raised saloon provides panoramic sightlines across an interior arranged in three cabins: an owner's cabin aft, a midship single berth, and a forward double, served by two heads with showers. Teak joinery throughout. The saloon sofa converts to additional sleeping space, accommodating seven persons total. A 75 hp Yanmar diesel engine with 660-litre fuel and 499-litre water tankage supports extended voyaging.
The yacht carries substantial systems: lithium service batteries, a diesel generator, 800 watts of solar panels, two hydro generators, and a wind generator. Electric winches number three. Bow and stern thrusters with variable speed control aid manoeuvrability. Navigation runs on an upgraded Raymarine system. A stainless steel arch frames the stern. The sails were renewed in 2025, the cutter jib in 2018, and the copper-coat antifouling applied in 2022.
