Longbow is a 2015 Class 40 racing yacht designed by Owen Clarke Design and built by Carbon Ocean Yacht. Purpose-built for competitive offshore and inshore racing on the U.S. East Coast, she combines refined offshore capability with tactical agility suited to American racing programmes including SORC events and Great Lakes competition.
The hull is vacuum-formed in female moulds using foam, glass, and epoxy, with a CNC-machined deck. Her design features a powerful masthead rig and hybrid hull form optimized across a wide range of conditions. Pronounced aft chines reduce wetted surface area for efficient performance at light to moderate heel angles. The yacht is equipped with twin kick-up rudders, a carbon bowsprit, and six water ballast tanks—three per side—for control and stability. She was built with two keel positions and eventually fitted with two keels to allow optimization between light-air and moderate-course performance.
An independent under-deck headsail sheeting system enables rapid, precise trimming for tactical racing. The cockpit is ergonomically designed for double-handed competition, with clean layouts and efficient sail-handling configurations optimized for speed.
The yacht has been professionally maintained throughout her service life.
