The 2016 Catalina 445 is a fiberglass cruising sailboat designed for extended ocean passages. Her hull features end-grain balsa core sandwich construction with a vinylester barrier to resist osmosis, and the one-piece deck incorporates molded-in diamond-pattern non-skid. The boat carries a lead fin keel with stainless steel bolts and displaces 24,500 pounds. Power comes from a single 54-horsepower Yanmar diesel with 347.2 hours of use, paired with a three-blade bronze propeller and a bow thruster. The rig includes a Selden in-mast mainsail furling system with full standing and running rigging in 316 stainless steel, plus a Selden Furlex headsail furler and sprit for asymmetrical spinnaker work. Sails consist of a fully battened main, 135% genoa, and 110% jib, all with UV protection.
Below deck, the layout provides three cabins and two heads. The forward owner's cabin features a large double berth and private head access with an electric fresh water head and separate shower. The guest cabin aft to starboard holds a comfortable double berth with private head access. A flexible third cabin on the port side includes a fold-down single berth and can serve as storage or work space. The galley is L-shaped with extensive storage, including a top-loading Frigoboat freezer and front-loading Isotherm refrigerator, gimbaled Force Ten three-burner LPG stove with oven, microwave, and polished stainless steel sinks.
The main saloon features a large dinette to port with an adjustable gloss-finished table, swiveling reclining chairs to starboard, and teak interior throughout with satin varnish finish and teak-and-holly sole. A navigation station with chart table provides a dedicated workspace. Deck amenities include a solid teak cockpit table with leaves and center insulated compartment, twin 32-inch destroyer wheels, wide lifelines with gates, and a walk-through stern with telescopic boarding ladder and transom shower. The cockpit is fitted with tall secure coamings and seats four to six.
Electrical and mechanical systems are substantial. A 5.5-kilowatt Westerbeke diesel generator with 200 hours runs auxiliary power. Fresh water capacity spans 179 gallons across three tanks; fuel capacity is 84 gallons in two tanks. Three 8D AGM batteries and one Group 24 AGM battery were replaced in spring 2022. A 60-amp multi-bank automatic charger supports the electrical system. Electronics include a Raymarine 12-inch chart plotter integrated with GPS and digital radar, an EV-40 autopilot, AIS 700 transceiver, a Raymarine Ray 55 VHF, and Fusion marine radio with SiriusXM. Two newly installed 16,000-BTU air conditioning units provide climate control, supplemented by ten installed 12-volt cabin fans. Safety equipment includes dual anchors with chain
