The Firefly 850 is a high-performance racing catamaran built in 2016 by Taylor Composites. At 8.53 metres long with a 5.73-metre beam, it weighs just 1,000 kilograms complete. The hull is composite construction—Western Red Cedar planking reinforced with epoxy, fiberglass, and carbon. The design features retractable rudders and beams, making it suitable for trailering or container transport. Power comes from a Suzuki 6 hp four-stroke outboard.
The boat accommodates two compact cabins with four single berths. Deck hardware throughout is Harken fittings. The rig consists of an aluminium mast and boom, with a mainsail plus three jibs and three spinnakers from EuropSails Switzerland. Sails include a lazy bag with cover and jib cover, plus an all-over boat cover. On-board systems include a 12-volt battery setup with solar panel powering the autopilot, electric winch handle, and a handheld VHF radio.
Standard equipment includes a 15-kilogram anchor with 10 metres of chain and 40 metres of warp, five lifejackets, safety harness, and toolkit. An inflatable tender with a Mercury 6 hp four-stroke outboard is included. The boat has been dry-sailed since launch with minimal annual use, preserving the hull, rig, and systems throughout its life. It is registered in Thailand for six passengers.
