2016 Knysna 500 SE

This 2016 Knysna 500 SE is a 50-foot catamaran designed for extended cruising and comfortable offshore passage-making. The boat carries two 114-horsepower Yammer diesel engines and features a three-cabin, three-head layout suited to couples and their guests. The interior showcases maple wood cabinetry and trim throughout, with large windows and hatches that flood the spaces with natural light and ventilation.

The accommodations include queen-sized berths in each cabin, with spacious heads featuring separate shower areas. The main saloon provides flexible living space for dining and socializing, while the cockpit extends entertaining to the open air. Galley facilities include an Isotherm refrigerator and freezer unit, and a microwave.

A comprehensive electrical upgrade completed in 2021 forms the backbone of the boat's systems. The battery bank comprises 1,000 amp-hours of Battleborn lithium LifePO4 batteries, supported by three Victron charger-inverters rated at 3,000 watts each. Power generation comes from 2.5 kilowatts of solar paneling—including both fixed panels and walk-on units mounted across the cockpit roof—combined with a 9-kilowatt Kohler generator and two 130-amp Mastervolt alternators that charge while motoring. A Victron battery monitor and Color Connect system enable local and remote electrical management. The boat runs air conditioning, heating, watermaker, washing machine, and hot water systems from the battery bank. Two Velair 16,000 BTU variable-speed air-conditioning and heating units were installed in 2021. All high-amperage wiring was re-engineered to US ABYC standards during the 2021 upgrade.

Additional recent work includes new Kiwi Grip decking on the transoms and catwalk, LED lighting throughout, Sirocco Elite cabin and galley fans, and new engine systems including raw water pumps, start batteries, and Racor filter gauges. A Highfield 360 dinghy with 25-horsepower Yamaha outboard is included.
