This 2019 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 389 is a 38-foot fiberglass sloop designed by Marc Lombard Yacht Design. Built for extended cruising, the boat has been extensively customized and outfitted for ocean passages. It features a Yanmar 30 hp diesel engine, carries 130 liters of fuel and 200 liters of fresh water, and displaces 6,920 kg with a standard keel draft of 1.98 meters.
The three-cabin layout includes one head and provides comfortable accommodation for cruising families. The saloon is bright and open, with easy access throughout the boat to numerous storage areas. Aft cabins are spacious, and the wide swim platform makes water access simple. The fully equipped cockpit accommodates dining and social gatherings, and a folding double-leaf table provides additional functionality.
The rig and sail plan are comprehensive and modern. The boat carries a newly replaced mainsail, 115% roller furling jibs, a code zero, and an asymmetrical spinnaker, all new in 2024. Four Harken self-tailing winches (two 40s and two 35s) handle the halyards, which are Dyneema throughout. A Windpilot Pacific steering vane provides hands-free sailing capability. Deck gear includes continuous furlers for headsail, spinnaker, and code zero; a Forespar whisker pole; and full battens with two deep reefs in the mainsail.
Navigation and electronics are modern and redundant. Twin Raymarine AXIOM 9-inch touchscreen chartplotters sit at the helm and nav station, paired with a Raymarine P70S autopilot and wind, depth, and speed displays. AIS transmit and receive capability, Raymarine 73 VHF, and a handheld Cobra radio provide full communication. A Fusion stereo system serves both interior and cockpit. Power comes from 700 watts of Renogy solar panels, a battery bank of 400 amp-hours of lithium plus a 220 amp-hour lead-acid house battery, and dual DC/DC chargers. An 8-foot inflatable dinghy with a 4 hp Honda outboard (under 20 hours of use as of October 2025) is included, as are a portable watermaker, Starlink internet with electric shutoff, and a six-person liferaft.
