The Bruce Roberts 46 pilothouse is a serious offshore cruising design built around heavy-displacement steel construction, full keel stability, and extended passage-making capability. This 2020-built example began as a bare steel hull in 2007 and underwent years of custom development into a fully equipped cruising yacht. The hull measures 46 feet in length with a 13-foot beam, constructed from quarter-inch welded steel plate with a full displacement hull and hard chines. The pilothouse features half-inch laminated safety glass windows, and the interior is extensively insulated with foam and finished in hardwood throughout. The boat demonstrates offshore capability through multiple coastal voyages since launch.
The layout includes a forward V-berth, enclosed head with separate shower, functional galley, lower helm station with full controls, navigation area, spacious salon with dinette, and generous aft quarter berths—accommodating four to six berths across two cabin spaces. The galley is equipped with a double stainless sink, Wallas diesel stove, Nova Kool fridge-freezer, and Force 10 hot water system. A diesel forced-air heating system serves the cabin spaces. The 70-gallon fresh water system feeds pressurized throughout.
Power comes from a single Isuzu 4GJ1 diesel engine producing 70 horsepower with approximately 920 operating hours, paired with a ZF marine gearbox. The boat features dual helm stations and a fully independent hydraulic steering system with manual backup pumps located both inside and in the cockpit. Hydraulic systems also power the windlass and bow thruster. Electrical systems include Blue Sea monitoring, a Leece Neville 130A alternator, 8D battery bank with temperature monitoring, 30-amp shore power with isolation transformer, and pre-wiring for inverter and solar integration.
Navigation and safety equipment includes Furuno radar-chartplotter, JRC radar, Uniden VHF, and a comprehensive offshore safety package. The sails include a brand-new mainsail with jib and staysail in usable condition. Manual winches, Rocna 33-kilogram primary anchor with 200 feet of chain rode, and extensive onboard spares complete the setup for independent cruising operations.
