The 2020 Garcia Exploration 52 is a purpose-built aluminum bluewater cruiser designed for long-distance, autonomous voyaging. Her single-piece aluminum hull, deck, and saloon structure create exceptional rigidity and strength. The centerboard and twin rudders allow the yacht to safely beach at low tide for easy inspection of running gear and anodes. The hard dodger provides excellent cockpit protection, while inboard-mounted primary winches make extended passagemaking comfortable and safe. Low-mounted anchor chain storage near the mast removes excessive bow weight. An Oceanvolt AXC40 hybrid propulsion system powered by lithium batteries and two Fischer Panda generators delivers efficient, quiet motoring, with a second throttle at the inside navigation station effectively converting the raised saloon into a pilot house.
The deck saloon features panoramic double-glazed windows with 270-degree views, thick hull insulation for thermal and acoustic protection, and a forward-facing navigation station. The interior includes a spacious owner's cabin with ensuite head, a starboard VIP double cabin, a port aft cabin converted into a workshop with direct cockpit access, and additional storage cabins with fold-down bunks. The galley sits on the port side with an induction cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer. A convertible saloon table provides additional sleeping berth capacity. Interior soles feature foam insulation for cold-weather comfort, and radiator heating with heat exchangers serves all cabins. Air conditioning is fitted in the owner's and starboard aft cabins.
Electronics and navigation systems are comprehensive: dual Zeus3 touchscreen displays (16" at the navigation station, 12" in the cockpit), B&G autopilots with redundant steering, full B&G sailing instruments, radar replaced December 2024, VHF with wireless handset, AIS transponder, and Starlink connectivity. The electrical system includes 520 watts of solar panels, 48-volt and 24-volt battery banks with lithium service batteries replaced May 2024, and dual shore power inlets with auto-switching isolation transformers.
The sail plan comprises a Hydranet triradial mainsail on a Leisurefurl boom, genoa, staysail, fresh Code 0, gennaker with electric furler, and spinnaker. Anderson electric winches power primary and secondary systems. A 100-liter-per-hour water maker, Webasto diesel heating replaced May 2024, washing machine/dryer, and air conditioning compressor support extended cruising. An 8-person Viking liferaft, comprehensive SOLAS safety equipment, dive compressor, and an OC300 tender with Honda 20 outboard and retractable arch complete the package. The boat carries extensive spare parts, tools, and rigging for world cruising.
