The 2021 Cobalt R8 Surf is a 27.8-foot fiberglass cruiser built around wake surfing performance, powered by a single 430-horsepower Volvo Penta gasoline engine. The boat features a patented Surf Gate system with high-speed actuators that adjust ballast, speed, and wave direction to suit different riders and conditions, with preset profiles for repeatable results. Ballast can be customized based on passenger load to shape the wave without interrupting rides. The boat accommodates water sports beyond surfing, including skiing and other activities across lakes, rivers, and larger water bodies.

The interior centers on spacious, plush seating with adjustable backrests and multiple sunpad options throughout. An enclosed head with 50 inches of headroom serves the cabin, and substantial storage includes underseat coolers and ample stowage. Dual Garmin touchscreen navigation units support on-water navigation.

Exterior features include a patented Cobalt swim step that lowers below the waterline for entry and exit, with flush storage integrated into the swim platform. Underwater LED lighting with RGB color options provides nighttime ambiance. A rotating sunshade remains in place when the power arch lowers for transport or passage under low bridges. Non-slip traction matting covers working surfaces, and a stainless-steel quick-mount fender system simplifies docking. Dual board sport racks accommodate multiple boards.
