The 2021 Knysna 500SE is a 50-foot fiberglass catamaran designed for cruising performance and comfortable extended voyaging. Built by the Knysna Yacht Company in South Africa using vacuum-bagged Airex PVC foam core construction, the hull and deck are lightweight and rigid. The interior features high-gloss pear veneer throughout, with latticed cabinet doors for ventilation. The layout includes four cabins and four heads, with a spacious master suite, making the boat suitable for larger groups or extended family cruising.
The yacht's living spaces emphasize thoughtful design and storage. Double sliding doors open the full width between the salon and expansive cockpit, creating seamless flow to outdoor areas. The transom features shallow steps and a large platform with integrated dinghy davit that doubles as a swim platform when anchored, with transom seating and walkway designed for easy movement between hulls and clear sightlines from the helm.
Power comes from twin Yanmar 4JH57 diesel engines of 57 horsepower each, each with approximately 1,300 running hours. The yacht is equipped with a Fisher Panda 6000 Hybrid generator, Mastervolt lithium ion battery bank totaling 720 amp-hours, and 2,000 watts of solar panels. A Schenker watermaker provides fresh water generation. Propulsion features Brunton feathering props and Yanmar VCS electronic throttle and engine displays.
Sails include a North Sails NorLam XI09 mainsail with high roach, a North Sails NorLam XI09 furling genoa, a screecher, and a spinnaker with sock. An electric genoa furler and Harken electric winches assist sail handling. Additional equipment includes a ROCNA 40-kilogram anchor and a Spar Craft SA dinghy. The boat has cruised the US East Coast and Bahamas.
