The Balance 442 is an award-winning offshore performance catamaran built around carbon-reinforced foam core construction and intelligent design for serious sailing. Designed by world champion racer Phillip Berman and naval architect Anton du Toit, the boat delivers genuine sailing capability through its 1,205 square-foot sail plan, daggerboard configuration, and lightweight engineering. The twin Yanmar diesel engines provide auxiliary power, while the VersaHelm system offers exceptional visibility and intuitive helm operation from both upper and lower stations.
This three-cabin owner's version combines performance with comfortable liveaboard accommodations. The interior features a spacious salon with queen convertible berth, large U-shaped galley with real wood cabinetry, master suite with dedicated shower, and 6'10" headroom throughout. Storage is extensive and thoughtfully arranged. The open flow between salon and cockpit creates a unified living space, while the cockpit includes grill and sink. Self-tacking headsails, electric winches, and dual furling systems make short-handed sailing straightforward and refined.
This example has undergone substantial modernization focused on offshore capability and long-term reliability. Electronics upgrades include Garmin 8612xsv multifunction displays at both helms, Garmin Fantom 18x radar, and a 9-inch owner's cabin monitoring display. The electrical architecture was upgraded to Victron Next Generation lithium batteries with M10 BMS, dual 18kw Integrel charging systems, and NOCO smart chargers integrated with Bluetooth tank monitoring. Engine start batteries were converted to AGM units. These enhancements create an exceptionally refined and capable cruising platform.
The boat includes a tender package with an OC330 equipped with an 8-horsepower Honda engine. Additional features include a Maxwell windlass, Rocna anchor with chain, composite davit system, Dyneema lifelines, offshore trampoline, and boarding gates. Black window coverings and black netting on the lifelines complete the specification.
