2024 Custom Whitacre Yacht Design VW Bus Tritoon

This 23-foot tritoon is a custom design that pairs the upper body of a classic Volkswagen bus with three aluminum pontoons. The build merges novelty with functionality: the original VW steering wheel serves as the helm, while functional headlights and taillights are integrated into the design. The boat is powered by a 200-horsepower Suzuki outboard and two Minn Kota trolling motors.

The layout centers on the VW bus cabin, which contains settees that provide both lounge seating and integrated storage. The rear door opens for interior access and ventilation. Generous side decks run the full length of the boat, offering safe passage forward and aft. The 11-foot-4-inch beam provides stability and open-air space for the crew to relax.

The aluminum construction is standard for this style of pontoon, combining durability with light weight. This is a thoroughly unconventional design—a one-of-a-kind collaboration that treats a pontoon platform as a canvas for creative customization.
