The 2024 Excess 11 is a performance-oriented sailing catamaran with three cabins, designed by VPLP and styled by Patrick le Quément. Built from composite materials using vacuum infusion with balsa coring, the hull incorporates mini keels engineered to handle significant side impact. Twin Yanmar diesel engines of 58 hp each power the boat to a cruising speed of 6 knots, with a maximum speed of 7 knots. The catamaran features dual helm stations positioned aft on each hull, connected via Dyneema cable steering for direct and responsive control, while the main living areas remain open and uncluttered.
The three-cabin layout prioritizes both comfort and light. The starboard hull contains a master suite with a 2m × 2m bed, while the port aft cabin offers another substantial berth. Two heads serve the accommodation. Large hull windows flood the interior with natural light, and the overall design balances strength with lightness across deck and hull structure. Steering via Dyneema cables provides a direct connection between helm and the water.
Performance is enhanced by a larger standard sail area than typical in the cruising catamaran class. This example is equipped with the Pulse Line option, which includes a taller mast and increased upwind sail area for improved performance in light winds. The beam of 22.28 feet and length of 37.47 feet provide stability and space without sacrificing seaworthiness or ease of handling.
