The Spindrift 47 is a catamaran express cruiser developed from the successful Spindrift 45, extended four feet to accommodate a more generous living layout. Built by Aquidneck Custom Composites using epoxy resin infusion over foam core, the hull is a composite construction notable for its laminate quality and careful weight control. The boat is powered by twin Cummins QSB 6.7 engines (480 HP) driving Hamilton Jets. A Hysucat hydrofoil system spans between the hulls, reducing effective weight at speed by approximately half and improving fuel efficiency by around 25% while dampening motion and improving ride comfort.
The expanded deckhouse creates a substantially larger galley with increased working space, refrigerator and freezer capacity, and a bigger stove and oven, with more storage lockers. The lounging area opposite the galley also benefits from the additional length. The flybridge is enlarged and covered by a composite canopy fitted with solar panels to power day-to-day functions and antenna mounts.
Accommodation comprises a master cabin forward on the starboard side, two double cabins to port, and a reconfigured forward port cabin with upper and lower single berths. The aft port cabin gains significant headroom and standing room from the extended deckhouse. The port head and shower have been enlarged considerably. A dedicated work room in the starboard hull houses a washer and dryer, along with a bench for projects and tool storage.
The boat is capable of 38 knots or more at wide open throttle, with a comfortable cruise speed of 28 to 30 knots. The combination of more powerful engines and newer jet drives offsets the additional weight of the larger design while maintaining efficient fuel consumption — notably superior to comparable monohulls.
