The Excess 13 is a 42-foot cruising catamaran built for ocean passage-making and designed around the pleasures of sailing and living aboard. Developed by naval architect Marc Lombard YDG in collaboration with the Excess Design Team, she combines refined hull forms with a lightweight composite structure that prioritizes responsiveness and sailing feel. The asymmetrical hulls—finer below the waterline—deliver strong performance and easy motion through water while preserving interior volume. A direct helm connection and forward-facing chart table keep the sailor engaged with conditions and navigation.
The interior balances generous accommodation with efficiency. The owner's hull features a spacious bedroom, large forward bathroom, and dressing room, while a saloon flooded with natural light and a fully equipped galley opening to the cockpit connect inside and outside living. The guest hull offers two bedrooms and two private bathrooms. Throughout, design choices prioritize function: optimized cabin doors serve dual purposes, a rainwater recovery system feeds fresh water storage, and efficient ventilation reduces air conditioning demand. The result is a lighter structure with full headroom, expansive storage, and uncompromised performance.
Built from fiberglass with a single Yanmar diesel engine, the boat carries the practical details needed for extended cruising and adventure. Fold-down sugarscoops provide safe water access, while extensive exterior storage accommodates equipment for diving, snorkeling, wingfoiling, or other pursuits. The Excess 13 is designed as a true sailboat for those seeking both the freedom of the sea and the comfort to stay there.
