The J/7 is a 23-foot modern daysailer built on a proven platform refined through decades of institutional sailing program use. Its fiberglass hull features composite sandwich construction—biaxial E-glass with vacuum-bagged Corecell foam core and high-density inserts—engineered for the durability demands of daily sailing. The boat combines a high 46% ballast-to-displacement ratio with a low 3.8-foot fixed all-lead keel, delivering exceptional stability across a range of conditions without requiring crew hiking.
The cockpit dominates the design with 8.5-foot seats and backrests that comfortably accommodate five or more people, or four adults on the same side while sailing upwind. All sail controls remain within reach of the helm, and an adjustable backstay enables instant sail flattening in gusts. A walk-through swim platform extends the usable deck space. The cabin provides a small interior with settee seats and V-berth platform for weather protection and storage.
Sailing the J/7 requires minimal complexity. A deck-stepped, single-spreader aluminum mast simplifies rigging and lowering. The sail plan—main and small jib on roller furling—can be managed single-handedly, and the boat excels under mainsail alone. An end-boom mainsheet system eliminates a traditional traveler. The molded ORC toe-rail runs port and starboard from bow to stern with a single transom gate.
The boat is single-point lift capable and designed to tow behind a mid-sized SUV. A range of options is available, including Flexiteek cockpit sole, cockpit cushions, swim ladder, and symmetric spinnaker gear for racing programs.
