The Balance 580 is a 58-foot performance cruising catamaran built with hand-laminated composite construction and carbon reinforcement throughout. Her long, lean hulls and high underwear clearance make her the lightest catamaran in her class. Power comes from a single 80 hp Yanmar diesel engine paired with optional hybrid-electric capability via a 51 kW lithium battery bank, supported by up to 3,400 W of integrated solar panels. The yacht carries 1,000 liters of fuel and 600 liters of fresh water across dual tanks.
The 580 is engineered for owner-operator sailing in demanding offshore conditions. Her cutter rig delivers 209.5 square meters of sail area across three furling headsails, a working self-tacking jib, and main, with optional asymmetric spinnaker and screacher. High-aspect daggerboards with shallow draft (1.65 m board-up, 3.35 m board-down) provide responsive pointing and control in varied wind. The signature VersaHelm pivoting helm station offers 90-degree rotation for total visibility, while a built-in bow thruster and line-management systems at the helm enable single-hand operation.
Below decks, the 580 offers five cabins and four heads arranged in a luxury interior unmatched among large performance catamarans. The saloon features wide glass doors that fully retract to the cockpit, an island galley, foam-cored cabinetry with real wood veneer, and real glass windows throughout. Multiple cabin configurations support private ownership, liveaboard couples with guests, or chartered operation. Abundant storage and spacious cabins accommodate extended voyaging independence.
Each 580 is hand-built in South Africa using closed-cell epoxy construction with vacuum-bagged lamination. The yacht measures 17.78 meters on the waterline with an 8.6-meter beam and displaces 16,668 kilograms cruise-equipped.
