This 64-foot steel tug dates to 1903, built by Johnston Brothers in Ferrysburg, Michigan. The boat was modernized in the 1970s with the addition of a retractable wheelhouse. It is powered by a single Detroit Diesel 16-V149 engine rated at 1100 horsepower, paired with a Twin Disc MG 540 reduction gear and a four-blade, 76-inch fixed-pitch stainless steel propeller on a six-inch shaft. The hull is double steel with a six-foot draft. Two generators—one Perkins and one Detroit—provide auxiliary power.
The tug cruises at 10 knots and carries 2000 gallons of fuel and 200 gallons of lube oil. Onboard electronics include GPS, radio, depth sounder, and compass. The boat has basic accommodations with a kitchen and one head. Bridging clearance allows passage under all spans between Oswego and Albany, New York, with the lowest clearance at 15 feet 5 inches.
The hull bottom was painted in 2012 and remains in sound condition. External paint was applied five to six years ago and is in good order. The diesel engine shows approximately 2000 hours of run time; the generator sets total around 6000 hours. The boat was last used commercially in 2019–2020 and has been periodically maintained and serviced since. Maintenance and service records are logged onboard.
