PIA is a 1922 Sonderklasse racing yacht, the last built to the original class rules and the only one ever constructed in Austria. Introduced in 1899 as the first true class designed to a formula, the Sonderklasse remains a celebrated design: at 1,850 kg displacement with 51 m² of sail area, it delivers exceptional speed and agility suited to prestigious regattas.
Built by Österreichische Schiffswerft AG in Gmunden to engineer Otto Katzinger's design, PIA features a mahogany hull and teak deck. The boat measures 12.00 m overall length with a 1.71 m beam and 1.60 m draft. A Bergner spruce mast was renewed in 2015. Extensive refits were completed in 1994 and 2018/19.
Equipment includes a Harbeck trailer, four Doyle-Raudaschl sails (mainsail, jib, genoa, and spinnaker), hand bilge pump, cockpit cover, buoyancy aids below deck, tiller extension, and a profiled keel and rudder.
