1958 Sparkman & Stephens Nevins 40

This 1958 Sparkman & Stephens Nevins 40 is a centerboard yawl developed from the legendary Finisterre design, a three-time winner of the Newport to Bermuda race. The class pioneered a balance of racing performance, cruising space, and shallow draft that made it influential among both competitive sailors and long-distance cruisers. Built by Nevins, she has the characteristic beam and sea-keeping ability that defined the design's reputation for ocean passage-making and gunkholing in shoal waters.

The boat carries a single Yammer diesel engine of 45 horsepower, installed recently with approximately 300 hours of running time. She is fitted with a new aluminum fuel tank installed in 2024, an electric bronze windlass with remote control, a six-gallon Isotemp water heater, and current B&G electronics. Safety equipment is fully up to date.

During the winter of 2024–25, structural work was performed at Gannon & Benjamin on Martha's Vineyard, including replacement of the forefoot timber, frame ends, floor timbers, and mast step. The wooden hull has been maintained to a high standard and remains in active service for both racing and cruising throughout New England. A single head is aboard.
