The MV Prescotont is a 1930 steel-hulled tug originally built for the Canadian Pacific Railway. At 111 feet long with a 30-foot beam and a single 600-horsepower GM diesel engine, this boat represents a significant piece of Canadian maritime history. The hull features a replaceable liner propeller shaft with bronze bearings, a hydraulic bow-thruster, and a 3.5:1 reduction gearbox. Power generation is managed by twin gensets—a Perkins 60kW and an Isuzu 40kW unit—both with keel cooling.
The accommodation spans four levels and is arranged to allow guest and crew quarters to be completely separated. The upper wheelhouse contains a full complement of navigation electronics including Furuno GPS and radar, dual VHF radios, and comprehensive engine monitoring. An exterior sky deck provides open-air viewing, while a second level houses a lounge with chart table and an outdoor dining deck featuring a BBQ and hydraulic crane for tender deployment.
The main deck centers on a formal dining area for six and a generous salon with multiple seating zones, a bar, and work station. The galley is fitted with commercial-grade stainless steel countertops, a four-burner stove with oven, full-sized refrigerator and freezer, and dishwasher. Guest accommodation includes a primary stateroom with queen bed and cedar-lined walk-in closet, two VIP staterooms with double beds, and a twin stateroom, each with ensuite heads and showers. A crew galley, crew quarters with private bunkrooms, and crew head serve the working areas. Additional features include laundry facilities, workshop spaces, and multiple storage compartments throughout.
The engine room houses a Cleveland 8V-278A diesel with approximately 1,800 hours, supported by extensive auxiliary systems including dual air compressors, hydraulic pumps, a centrifuge oil purification system, and domestic heating and pressurization equipment. Following a complete restoration that upgraded all internal systems, electrical, plumbing, and communications infrastructure, the boat remains fully operational and equipped for extended cruising.
