An 85-foot wooden schooner built in 1934, Destiny combines traditional sailing design with modern systems installed through two extensive refits. The boat features schooner rigging with 1x19 wire rope and Norsman Hi-Mod fittings, paired with a full suite of Andersen self-tailing winches—two #52 halyards and two #62 sheets at each mast, an #58 mainsheet at the helm, and an #40 headsail winch at starboard. Her sails include a Hasse genoa on Schaefer roller furling, Hasse main and staysail, self-tending mizzen staysail, spinnaker, fisherman downwind sail, and course topsail, all from 2018. A single Detroit Diesel engine powers the boat at a cruising speed of 8 knots.
Below deck, accommodations include an owner's cabin with queen berth, nav station, and settee; two amidships cabins sleeping two each; a forward cabin with full-size bunks and hanging locker; and a main salon with C-shaped settee and dining table for eight. The galley features a Force 10 three-burner induction stove, dual sinks, toaster oven, microwave, new Vitrifrigo refrigerator, and Technautics freezer. A separate head with shower adjoins the forward cabin. Additional storage includes a dedicated area for the 24-volt battery system, water maker, and anchor locker.
Refits from 2008 to 2011 and again from mid-2020 to 2024 included hull planking and fastener replacement as needed, new main and mizzen masts, standing and running rigging, wiring, plumbing, and additions of solar panels and Andersen winches. Navigation systems comprise Garmin GPSMap displays at nav station and helm, Garmin HD radar, autopilot, and dual VHF radios. Electrical systems include 50-amp shore power, a Northern Lights 12.5kW generator with 3,915 hours, Victron charger-inverter, six 200-watt solar panels on adjustable mounts, and four Outback Energy charge controllers. A Sidepower bow thruster and hydraulic steering aid handling. Ground tackle consists of a Rocna primary anchor with all-chain rode and two Danforth secondary anchors. Canvas protection includes a full wheelhouse enclosure, mainsail and staysail covers, and doghouse cover.
