This 1953 Herreshoff 58 is a classic ketch built to enduring designs from 1931. The wooden hull features Oregon pine above the waterline and Iroko planking below, with an oak frame and teak deck. The boat carries twin Sole diesel engines producing 84 horsepower combined, with cruising speed around 8 knots and a maximum speed of approximately 9.5 knots.
The yacht underwent a comprehensive three-year refit completed in 2014, during which the hull planking, deck, and superstructure were entirely renewed. The original masts and bronze winches were retained. Two new Sole 42 HP diesel engines were installed alongside new stainless steel fuel and water tanks, with all chainplates and steel reinforcements upgraded to stainless steel. The electrical switchboard and wiring were finished in 2017.
Below deck, the accommodation includes a master stateroom forward with a queen berth to port and single bunk to starboard, plus two pilot berths in the salon. The galley and chart table are fitted, with a head to starboard and a separate bathroom featuring a large shower, sink, and hot water system. Interior furnishings have been completed progressively since 2014, with new cushions and mattresses throughout. All plumbing is operational, including fresh water pressure system, hot water heater, and grey and black water holding tanks.
In June 2021, the boat received further servicing including a respray of the topsides, complete engine and shaft maintenance, new Max Props, and fresh bottom paint. The elegant lines and cambered rigging make this a distinctive presence under sail.
