This 1957 Sparkman & Stephens K/CB yawl is a 43-foot wooden sailing yacht built to the exacting standards of one of history's most respected design firms. The boat carries a single 55-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine driving a new bronze three-blade propeller through a newly replaced shaft and coupling. The yawl rig — mainsail, jib, and mizzen — has been substantially renewed with a new mainsail from 2014 and new jib and mizzen sails from 2018, supported by replaced stainless steel standing rigging and halyards throughout.
The deck and cockpit hardware reflect extensive recent work. New stainless steel ball valves, scuppers, and hoses have been installed, along with two new 16-ST bronze cockpit winches. All canvas hatch covers are new with integrated mosquito netting. A removable teak cockpit table and helm seat with bronze fittings provide functional elegance at the helm. Electronics include a Raymarine E7000 multifunction display with 18-inch digital radar dome and ST6000 autopilot, complemented by a Garmin GPS/fishfinder and Icom M700 SB single-sideband radio with Pactor modem for offshore communication.
The accommodation spaces have been thoroughly updated. Below deck, new cushions and covers outfit the V-berth, while the main cabin features new canvas replaced with solid green fabric. A LaVac head and a Kuuma hot water heater serve the interior, with a new Sigmar diesel bulkhead heater providing warmth. Two new 45 and 66-pound Bruce anchors complete the ground tackle.
The wooden hull itself has received substantial structural attention. The garboard planks were replaced in 2018, and the keel has been lowered, re-bedded between the deadwood, and all keel bolts retightened. Copper sheathing on the deadwood aft was removed, re-bedded, and reinstalled. Exterior woodwork — hull, decks, masts, and interior surfaces — has been stripped and re-varnished to eight coats, with the deck and cabin top Awlgripped in 2018. All wiring has been removed and replaced with new LED lighting throughout.
