This 1963 Camper & Nicholsons 36 is a fiberglass yacht from the pioneering era of GRP construction, built when the material was deliberately over-engineered for durability. Only 25 were produced between 1962 and 1968. Designed by Peter and Charles Nicholson and laid up by Halmatic, the boat was fitted out by A H Moody and Sons to original specifications. Her heavily laid-up hull has proven robust through decades of ownership and extended offshore sailing, including a 2026 transatlantic passage from Cape Verde to the West Indies and cruising throughout the Mediterranean.
The yacht's rig is substantially upgraded. A 2023 refit by AllSpars UK installed a new Selden twin spreader mast and boom with completely new oversized standing rigging and inspected chainplates. A Harken MK4 racing furler with twin tracks was fitted. Sail inventory includes a 2019 Hyde mainsail with two reefs, two 2019 Saturn genoas, a 2019 Saturn storm jib, two staysails, and a classic spinnaker. A 2024 Scanmar Monitor wind vane supports offshore work. The Beta Marine 28 hp diesel engine provides modest but reliable power.
Below decks, four berths are arranged with 6 foot 4 inches of standing headroom in the saloon. The single Jabsco head, pressurized hot and cold water system, and practical galley support extended cruising. Recent additions include a 12 volt 65 litre fridge freezer, ENO propane cooker and oven, upgraded hot water system, and lithium battery support via a Fossibot 2400W pack supplemented by solar and a portable generator.
Navigation electronics include Garmin GPSMap plotter with AIS targets, Raymarine depth and wind instruments, Standard Horizon Matrix AIS VHF, ICOM and handheld radios with AIS, Furuno Navtex, and SSB long range radio. Tiller steering is supported by a Raymarine ST4000 autopilot with electric drive. Ground tackle comprises a 16kg CQR, Fortress storm anchor, and 80 metres of chain. Safety equipment includes EPIRB, a serviced four man liferaft, multiple bilge pumps, and renewed navigation lights.
