1964 Grandy Profitable Sightseeing Tour and Charter Business

This 1964 Grandy charter boat is a 42-foot wooden-hulled explorer built for passenger operations on Puget Sound. Constructed with red cedar planking over oak frames and double-planked bottom, the hull has been substantially rebuilt over the past decade—significant portions of the freeboard, cap rails, decks, and cabin have been professionally reconstructed. The windows have been replaced, and the hull and fasteners remain in sound condition. A full protective cover made in 2021 provides seasonal protection.

Power comes from a single Caterpillar 3306 BTA 355-horsepower inline-six diesel with approximately 13,000 hours of operation. The engine was built in 1989 and drives a four-blade bronze propeller through a Twin Disk 2:1 gear. Recent maintenance includes a new cutlass bearing installed in 2022, new engine hoses in 2023, and in May 2026 a professional overhaul that included valve adjustment, heat exchanger and transmission cooler service, a new aftercooler core, and exhaust mixer replacement. At cruise speed of 1,800 rpm the boat runs at 9.7 knots using 7.2 gallons per hour. At 1,900 rpm she reaches 11 knots, and wide-open throttle produces 12.7 knots.

The boat holds USCG COI certification for 34 passengers plus captain and crew, valid through April 2031, restricted to lakes, bays, and sounds including Puget Sound. Current restriction to one mile from shore can be removed with the addition of a 22-person life float or 12-person inflatable. The boat is equipped with 400 gallons of useable fuel capacity, 119 gallons of fresh water, and integrated heating via Webasto boiler with multiple cabin coils. Electronics include Furuno C-NAV plotter and radar at both upper and lower stations, dual VHF radios with DSC capability, and 24-volt main engine batteries plus 12-volt house batteries updated in 2024. Electrical upgrades include a 120-volt panel, Victron isolation transformer, and 2,000-watt inverter for auxiliary power.
