1964 Hinckley Bermuda 40

The 1964 Hinckley Bermuda 40 is a fiberglass yawl defined by graceful proportions, solid construction, and enduring design. This example has been thoughtfully modernized with a 2022 Beta Marine 38-horsepower diesel engine (approximately 30 hours), a complete professional rewire by Hinckley Yacht Services in 2016, and contemporary systems including air conditioning with reverse-cycle heat, a Fischer Panda generator, SeaFrost refrigeration, and modern navigation electronics. Her varnished Honduran mahogany interior, teak-and-holly cabin sole, and traditional layout reflect classic Hinckley craftsmanship while accommodating today's cruising needs.

The yacht sleeps six across a forward V-berth with filler, salon pull-out transom berths, and pilot berths. The galley features a gimballed three-burner Shipmate stove with oven, stainless sink, and ample storage. The single head was refitted in 2016 with a Vacuflush toilet, custom shower pan, and teak detailing. A soapstone solid-fuel fireplace adds traditional ambiance. Navigation and electrical systems occupy the starboard side, with chart storage and control panels positioned efficiently. Throughout, mahogany joinery, burgundy cushions, and cream trim maintain the yacht's warmth and character.

Hull and deck construction follows Hinckley's established standards: hand-laid fiberglass reinforced in high-stress areas, Flag Blue Awlgrip topsides with gold cove and red boot stripes, and bronze external keel. Deck hardware is bronze, with stainless steel pulpits, stanchions, and bow roller. The cockpit features an Edson pedestal steering wheel, teak coamings and grate, custom dodger, and folding helm seat. Standing and running rigging was replaced in 2012; North Sails main, jib, and mizzen are current. The boat cruises at 6 knots under power and has performed regularly on the Chesapeake Bay.
