1966 Burger 72' Beach House Ketch

This 72-foot aluminum ketch was built by Burger Boat Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1966 to a Sparkman & Stephens design. Between 2014 and 2016, the yacht underwent a comprehensive rebuild at Lauderdale Marine Center. The hull was stripped to bare aluminum and surveyed, with approximately 30 percent of tanks and bottom plating replaced. New Awlgrip paint was applied throughout. The deck house was removed, redesigned, and lowered to create a flush profile that preserves the original sheer line, while the air draft was reduced to 64 feet.

The interior was transformed into a modern open-plan layout with a bamboo beach house aesthetic. The yacht now has two cabins with two ensuite heads, plus the option of a third stateroom. All interior equipment and systems were replaced with new, top-of-the-line products during the rebuild. The centerboard design allows the yacht to operate in as little as 5 feet 6 inches of water with the board up, or 15 feet with it down.

A single 210-horsepower Cummins diesel powers the yacht to a cruising speed of 8 knots and a maximum speed of 11 knots. The engine has logged fewer than 600 hours since the rebuild. Following seven years of cruising in the Exumas, the interior remains in very nice condition with light use. The exterior and deck require cosmetic attention and work, though the yacht is mechanically sound and ready to sail.
