This 1968 Abeking & Rasmussen Tripp 74 is a classically designed aluminum ketch drawn by Bill Tripp, representing high-end cruising yacht architecture. Her hull of 5/16" aluminum plate over aluminum frames, reinforced with 1/2" plate at the keel, displays the robust construction standards of her era. She carries a powerful ketch rig with two-spreader main and single-spreader mizzen masts, both aluminum and recently inspected. A moderate fin keel and transom-hung rudder—redesigned by Robert Perry—support her underway performance.
The interior, overseen by John Guzwell, features dark stained mahogany joinery, teak and holly cabin soles, and white laminate surfaces throughout. The layout flows from a spacious galley and bright salon amidships to accommodations forward and aft. The forepeak provides open storage with pipe berths and access to the workspace. A forward head serves the crew and guest areas, while a separate forward workshop offers dedicated space for maintenance and repairs. Two guest cabins sit port and starboard with pilot berths above, individual ports, and ample storage. The navigation center occupies the aft port area with direct deck access. The owner's stateroom aft features a private companionway to the cockpit and sleeps three across two berths.
Machinery includes a John Deere six-cylinder diesel engine with 260 horsepower and 586.7 hours installed in 2017, paired with a Twin Disc transmission and 30-inch feathering bronze Max Prop. Fuel capacity reaches 650 gallons across five aluminum tanks. Systems are comprehensive: a Northern Lights 12 kW generator, three Marine Air reverse-cycle air conditioners, Sea Recovery water maker, hydraulic steering for the transom rudder, and multiple bilge and sump pumps. Electrical power draws from ten 6-volt batteries with a Trace 4000-watt inverter/charger. Battery systems were replaced in 2024.
Electronics and navigation equipment are extensive: Furuno radar, chart plotter, and weather fax; Robertson autopilot; Vesper AIS; dual SSB and VHF radios; and Nobeltec PC navigation software. Deck systems include a Maxwell 4000 windlass with 280 feet of half-inch chain, four hydraulic primary winches, and comprehensive sail-handling gear. Sails range from racing laminates to cruising configurations, all from established lofts. An 11.5-foot Achilles RIB with 20 hp outboard is included.
