1969 Calkins 50 Pilot House

This 1969 Calkins 50 Pilot House is a classic wooden sailing yacht built by Tokyo Marine in Yokohama. The hull measures 50 feet in length with an 11-foot-11-inch beam and carries a displacement of 42,000 pounds. The construction is triple-planked mahogany, three-eighths of an inch thick per layer, with the outer planking running fore and aft in V-grooved seams. The deck and cabin structure feature teak and varnished brightwork throughout. A single 85-horsepower Perkins diesel engine provides auxiliary power, with the boat capable of cruising at 8 knots and reaching 14 knots at maximum speed.

The interior provides three cabins and one head, offering comfortable accommodation for extended cruising. The pilot house design gives the boat its distinctive character and provides protected helm stations. The yacht performs notably well in strong wind conditions.

The boat has undergone a partial refit between 2020 and 2022. The wooden construction has been maintained to a high standard, and recent survey documentation and haul-out photographs are available for review.
