The Islander 72 is a full-displacement aluminum motor yacht built in 1969, designed for serious offshore cruising and long-distance voyaging. Her electrically welded aluminum hull, decks, and superstructure were confirmed sound through ultrasonic thickness gauging, with original plate thicknesses verified throughout. The yacht features a partial keel, blue hull with white superstructure, and a teak swim platform. Her raised pilothouse offers commanding visibility, and the classic aft-cabin layout provides excellent privacy and separation of spaces.
Power comes from twin Detroit Diesel 8V92 TI engines, each rated at 325 horsepower, with closed-loop cooling and raw-water exhaust. The port engine requires rebuilding, and all necessary parts for repair are included. Direct-drive propulsion uses twin bronze 4-blade propellers. Two Westerbeke diesel generators of 25 kW each provide redundant power for extended cruising. Fuel capacity is approximately 4,000 gallons, and freshwater capacity is 1,200 gallons.
The interior features teak and holly sole over welded aluminum deck plating with clean, well-maintained cabinetry and joinery. Three electric heads serve the accommodations. An Aqua Whisper watermaker by Sea Recovery is installed for freshwater generation. Navigation systems include Furuno NAVnet GPS and chartplotter with sounder, Raytheon GPS, and Raytheon Ray220 VHF with hailer. The refrigerator, freezer, and stereo system are operational. The yacht carries a Type III MSD with polyethylene holding tank and deck pump-out capability.
At 72 feet long with a 17-foot-3-inch beam and 4-foot-6-inch draft, this aluminum yacht represents rare tonnage in the classic motor yacht market. The aluminum construction throughout — stringers, frames, fuel and water tanks, and bilges — offers durability and impact resistance seldom found in comparable vessels of her era.
