SELKIE is a 1969 Ohlson 38, a fiberglass sailing yacht designed by Swedish designer Einar Ohlson. The Ohlson 38 was featured in Richard Henderson's Choice Yacht Designs and is recognized for its design quality and performance characteristics. This boat is rigged for removable staysail capability, enabling additional power on extended offshore passages. The 37.5-foot hull with a 10.25-foot beam combines stability with speed and has proven itself across two transatlantic crossings and extended European cruising seasons.
The yacht has undergone substantial upgrades and ongoing maintenance throughout its service life. Work includes a full cockpit floor rebuild with custom teak grate, fore deck repair and replacement, and installation of a folding propeller. The rigging has been enhanced with a self-tailing jib on a furler for single-handed operation, and the cockpit fitted with self-tailing winches. A Dutchman mainsail flaking system was added, and instrumentation upgraded with new depth and wind systems. Below decks, the head was replaced with a marine toilet, holding tank, and macerator system.
The yacht is powered by a Beta Marine diesel engine. Included with the boat are a 10-foot Puffin dinghy and Torqueedo electric outboard with extra batteries and control arm.
