This 1970 Commercial LCU-135 is a 135-foot steel landing craft utility vessel powered by twin Detroit Diesel 12V71 engines producing 1,000 horsepower. The boat has a 30-foot beam, shallow draft of 3.5 feet forward and 5 feet aft, and a range of approximately 1,200 miles. Maximum speed reaches 12 knots with a cruising speed of 8 knots.
The interior includes a pilothouse command center, single berthing compartment with bunk-style accommodations for up to 14 crew members, galley with full food preparation facilities, crew lounge, combined head and shower room, and laundry room with washer and dryer. The engine room is divided into two separate compartments by watertight bulkhead for redundancy. The main deck features an open cargo area of roughly 1,850 square feet suitable for vehicles, tanks, or personnel transport.
The vessel is configured with dual-access ramps at bow and stern for roll-on/roll-off operations. An aft anchor deck houses a 2,000-pound anchor system with winch. In 2021, the entire boat underwent comprehensive rebuild and refurbishment, including removal, rebuilding, and reinstallation of engines, gears, and generators. The lazarette was completely taken apart, rebuilt, and repainted. The bilge received complete cleaning and repainting, hull bottom plates were inspected and gauged with many new plates installed, and all systems were repaired and brought to full working condition.
