1970 Hinckley Bermuda 40
About This Yacht
This 1970 Hinckley Bermuda 40 represents a design landmark from American yacht building's golden era. Conceived by William H. Tripp Jr. and built by Hinckley, the Bermuda 40 established itself as a benchmark for proportion and balance. At 40 feet 9 inches with an 11-foot 9-inch beam, the boat delivers both presence and refinement, equally capable under sail or at anchor.
The yacht has undergone a comprehensive two-year transformation guided by design principles that honor the original while integrating modern systems. A new Yammer diesel engine now powers the boat, supported by new structural stringers. New electronics throughout include a navigation station and updated panels, while all headliners have been replaced. Translucent hatches with screens bring natural light to the interior without compromising the clean deck lines. The salon table was redesigned and enlarged from the original specification.
Accommodations center on a teak and holly sole, with a V-berth featuring new starter batteries underneath and approximately 110 gallons of water storage across two tanks. A fresh water marine head and air-cooled refrigeration system support extended cruising. Reverse-cycle air conditioning installed two years ago provides climate control. A hot and cold transom shower and fresh water anchor washdown forward complete the water systems. A new windlass forward and anchor locker with 200–250 feet of all-chain rode support ground tackle.
The boat has had only three owners since 1970, each contributing to her maintenance and legacy. She has been stored indoors during winter months and professionally maintained throughout. A lee board installed under a bunk and new batteries positioned strategically below the V-berth and starboard settee round out the systems integration.
