1971 Cape Cod Shipbuilding Mercury
About This Yacht
This 1971 Cape Cod Shipbuilding Mercury is a 15-foot sailing yacht built to a Sparkman & Stephens design, known for combining seaworthiness with easy trailering. The fiberglass hull sits on a fixed keel that provides stability while keeping draft shallow at just 30 inches, and the design maximizes cockpit space without a centerboard trunk. A splash guard helps keep the cockpit dry during sailing. The boat accommodates a family of four comfortably and serves well for teaching sailing fundamentals.
The yacht carries aluminum spars and a fiberglass rudder. It comes with a newer main sail, plus original main, jib, working jib, and spinnaker, along with various racing accessories. Power comes from a Minn Kota electric outboard mounted on a factory teak motor mount. The cast iron keel was scraped, reseated, and repainted in 2019. The boat is in full working order.
A newly rebuilt aluminum trailer is included with the purchase, along with mooring gear. This is a straightforward small yacht suited to protected waters and ideal for family sailing and instruction.
