The Cal 2-46 is a fiberglass motor yacht designed by Bill Lapworth and built in 1972. Only 129 were ever constructed, making this a rare classic bluewater cruiser. The 45-foot hull features a long shoal-draft keel and large spade rudder engineered for offshore stability and forgiving handling. A single Perkins 4-236 diesel engine rated at 85 horsepower provides reliable cruising at approximately 8.5 knots with a range around 1,200 miles. The deck and cockpit layout prioritizes short-handed sailing with protected steering and well-positioned controls.
Below deck, the interior features three cabins with a spacious forward cabin, private aft owner's stateroom, and generous main salon with good visibility. Two enclosed heads with shower, hot and cold pressure water, and a walk-in engine room complete the layout. Traditional Burmese teak joinery throughout gives the interior its warm character.
Equipment includes a bow thruster, electric windlass, roller-furling genoa system, and comprehensive winch setup with Lewmar and Barient units. A 10-foot Novurania RIB with 9.9 Tohatsu engine is included. Power systems comprise an 8D starting battery, six-volt house bank, and Outback solar charging system. Four opening deck hatches, two Dorade vent intakes, and lifelines round out the installed gear.
The bottom was painted with fresh anodes applied in February 2026 at Maple Bay Boatyard. The Perkins engine is known worldwide for simplicity, durability, and parts availability—a proven standard for long-distance cruising.
