1972 Custom 195' Research Vessel

This 195-foot steel research vessel was built in 1972 with ice-strengthened construction and has operated as a survey platform. The hull measures 34 feet in beam with a draft of 12.8 feet and displaces 1,035 gross tons. Twin B&W Alpha diesel engines rated at 1,250 HP each are backed by three auxiliary Cummins units, delivering a total of 2,500 HP for a cruising speed of 11 knots maximum. The ship is fitted with bow and stern thrusters for station keeping and dynamic positioning capability via a Robertson SDP 600 system.

Deck facilities include a clear aft deck of 2,442 square feet, two deck cranes (2-ton and 18-ton capacity), and two A-frames with winches for deploying survey equipment. The vessel carries hull-mounted USBL positioning systems and a gondola for transducers. Comprehensive navigation electronics include dual Furuno ARPA radars, Simrad chart system, dual gyrocompasses, and a full GMDSS-A3 communications suite with satellite systems.

Accommodations comprise 10 single cabins and 11 double cabins totaling 32 berths for crew and personnel. The layout incorporates a large survey room, multiple work stations, and laboratory spaces. Fuel capacity is 141.6 tons and fresh water capacity is 102.5 tons. Life-saving equipment includes a 25-person life raft, five 20-person rafts, a rescue boat, and associated davit.
