1972 Morgan 40 Ketch

The Morgan 40 Ketch is a classic offshore cruiser built with a thick fiberglass hull and full encapsulated keel for durability and seaworthiness. This 1972 ketch spans 40 feet with an 11-foot beam and carries a Perkins 4-107 diesel engine producing 40 horsepower, with cruising speeds around 5.5 knots. The boat features aluminum main and mizzen masts, a full batten mainsail, multiple genoas, and a complete complement of Lewmar winches for confident sailing in open water.

Below deck, the layout is open and naturally lit with three cabins and one head. The forward cabin has a V-berth with an optional privacy curtain, the main saloon includes a second double berth, and the galley dinette creates an additional sleeping space when needed. Recent additions include a new Isotherm refrigeration and freezer system, a four-burner stove with oven, 10-gallon hot water heater, and dual propane tanks with shut-off valves. A fume detector was recently installed for safety.

The electrical infrastructure has been substantially upgraded for extended cruising, with a 300-amp-hour LiFePO4 house battery bank installed in 2025, supplementary lead-acid batteries, dual 250-watt Renogy solar panels, an 800-watt inverter, and upgraded Victron charging equipment. An AGM engine battery supports the Perkins. Starlink Mini connectivity was added for remote access. Navigation electronics include a Garmin chartplotter with depth sounder, Autohelm 4000 autopilot, VHF radios, and compass.

The Perkins engine received extensive service in late 2025 with new filters, hoses, coolant components, and lift pump. The standing rigging and chainplates were replaced in 2016. Deck gear includes a Rocna 45 anchor with galvanized chain, CQR backup anchors, a Maxwell electric windlass ready for installation, dodger, bimini, and swim ladder. A West Marine RIB-260 dinghy with an 8-horsepower Yamaha four-stroke engine is included.
