This 1973 custom Alan Wright 65 is a ketch-rigged motorsailer built for serious ocean voyaging. Designed by renowned New Zealand naval architect Alan Wright, the boat has completed two full circumnavigations and logged tens of thousands of offshore miles. Her fiberglass hull, traditional ketch rig, and dual keels represent the strength and craftsmanship of 1970s bluewater design.
Below deck, the layout combines comfort with practicality. The aft master suite includes a private ensuite head, while the forward cabin features twin bunks. A second head serves guests. The main salon is centered around a custom dining table, with dedicated navigation station, reading nook, and fully equipped galley suited to extended cruising.
Systems balance reliability with modern upgrades. A Gardner engine provides auxiliary power. Solar panels and an AGM house bank support off-grid operation, backed by an 8kW generator for when needed. Recent improvements include updated electronics, autopilot, watermaker, Victron battery management, refrigeration, and air conditioning. Standing and running rigging was replaced in 2023.
On deck, teak floors and wide working areas reflect her bluewater purpose. Dual helm stations—including a protected pilothouse helm—offer control in varied conditions. The boat carries a full suite of sails and includes mooring tackle.
